Teaching with significant innovation and proactivity in approaching learning. Below are some examples:

1) Queen's Management School, Queen's University Belfast.


As Director of Executive MBA - 2012-2017 - developed and led a unique Study Trip to the Leuven Institute of Ireland in Europe. Five-day visits included visits to the European Parliament, European Commission and leading policy makers such as UK Permanent Secretary to EU and leading Irish and Northern Irish MEPs.


2)  Queen's University and University of Ulster Teaching and Learning Best Practice. 
- Recognition of teaching and assessment excellence through involving industry on E-Marketing modules (BSc and MSc Marketing).

 3) NI Food Business Development Forum event: 6 April 2011
Organised and facilitated a Masterclass for MSc Business Development and Agrifood Business Development students from the Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategy (University of Ulster). The Forum theme related to key business development challenges facing the Northern Ireland agri-food sector, as the largest industrial sector in Northern Ireland. The seminar, entitled ‘Business Development in the Agri-food Industry’, focused on factors that will create a leading-edge and sustainable food industry. Among the key issues addressed was how the agri-food sector can create a low carbon food system; the use of digital technologies in the industry; and how the next generation of food industry managers can make the local market a world-beater. Leading figures from the food industry were invited to speak: Dr. Trefor Campbell CBE (ex-MD and non-executive Chair of Moy Park, Board Member of Belfast Harbour Commissioners and Patron and N.I. Council Member Princes Trust), Professor Mike Johnston (CEO Dairy Council for Northern Ireland), Mr. Paul Barbour (Commercial Manager for Kerry Foods branded business in Northern Ireland), Professor David Carson (Emeritus Professor of Marketing, University of Ulster).

4)  Dairy Council of Northern Ireland Bursaries
In my Chair role of the Department of Marketing Entrepreneurship and Strategy (University of Ulster) Business Liaison Committee, secured two MSc Agri-food Business Development bursaries - worth £13000 to the Department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategy. The bursaries (one for the academic year 2010/11 and one for 2011/12) were provided and funded by the Diary Council of Northern Ireland. The Diary Council Farm Smart Bursaries were promoted extensively throughout the industry. This led to over 20 applications (academic year 2010/11). Bursaries were awarded to two dairy farmers (2010/11) (2011/12).

5)  Science Shop Involvement
The Higher Education Innovation Fund funded Science Shop project provided funding for awards and provide recognised certificates for final year BSc Marketing students (Semester 1, 2010) on the iMarketing 2.0 module which I taught on and coordinate. The students worked as consultants for Mourne Heritage Trust a charitable Management body of the Mourne Area of Outstanding Beauty in South Down, Northern Ireland. Consultancy reports were professionally bound by Science Shop.
6)  Ulster Business School Marketing Excellence Awards (January/February 2010, 2011 and 2012)
Secured £2100 sponsorship awarded to outstanding marketing students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Sponsors include: Hastings Hotel Group, Chartered Institute of Marketing Ireland, Wrightbus and PropertyNews.com.

7) Employability
responsible during the revalidation of the BSc Marketing degree (2009) for the introduction of short placements and accreditation for students’ part-time work. These new initiatives were intended to supplement and support the 1 year industrial placement on the BSc Marketing degree. I worked closely with staff in the University of Ulster Work Experience Development Unit in this process.
 
8) Course and Module Development
Developed several new MSc Marketing programs at Queen's Management School, Queen's University Belfast - including Digital Marketing and Marketing Management and Strategy. Also played a central role in the development of the new Queen's MBA program launched in 2018.

Developed several new modules at the University of Ulster during new program validations and existing program revalidation: Entrepreneurial Marketing at PT level in 2008; iMarketing 2.0 UG level 4 in 2009; and, Marketing Me an UG employability module level 2 in 2009. He also developed the Placement module for students taking the year placement in 3rd year of the BSc Marketing in 2009. This included innovative introductions of short placements and prior accreditation of work experience. Some of these modules received praise by External Examiners for their innovative approaches to internet marketing and career development teaching and practice. Professor Adrian Palmer (External Examiner for the BSc Marketing) for academic years 2009/10 and 2010/11 provided oral and written praise in his reports to the University on the iMarketing 2.0 module. Professor Andrea Prothero for the academic years 2009/10 and 2010/11 also provided oral and written praise in her reports to the University on the Marketing Me and Placement module and management. At Queen's Management School, during 2013/14 I developed the new modules for the MSc Marketing program - Marketing Management and Strategy and also Digital Marketing.
